Regis College Pride 2012 Preview
The Regis College Pride finished the 2011 season with a 4-7 record. This season, they will move into the Pilgrim League and also welcome a new coach in Josh Blumenthal. Heading into the 2012 season, Coach Blumenthal is, “hoping to make a strong entrance into the Pilgrim League and step up our play against our out-of-conference games.” He understands that his team is young; this is only their third year as a varsity team. His intentions are to cultivate the team, which will be together for the next two to three years and serve as the future of their program. With such a young team, the future is bright for Coach Blumenthal and his Pride.
Leading the Pride into their first season in the Pilgrim League will be sophomore midfielder Chris Campbell, junior defenseman Andrew Goldberg and freshman midfielder Chris Costello. Campbell, according to Coach Blumenthal is, “a very versatile two-way midfielder who will give much guidance to our younger players.” Goldberg was second on the Pride in ground balls with 55, and he led the team in caused turnovers with 19. His coach called him “a force on defense.” Coach Blumenthal is also looking for Costello to help in the scoring with both his goals and assists.
Looking at the Pilgrim League, Coach Blumenthal believes Springfield is the favorite to win. He goes on to say that “Babson College is a close second.” A dark horse in the league could be the Clark Cougars. Coach Blumenthal talked about how, “Coach Cohen has done a tremendous job the past two seasons, and with a fantastic recruiting class over the past few years, has the Cougars setup for greatness.” A player in the Pilgrim League that NE Lax Blog will keep an eye on is sophomore long stick middie Ryan Dawidjan from Babson College. Dawidjan was a first Team All-League selection in 2011, as well as the Pilgrim League Rookie-of-the-Year in the 2011. He had 79 groundballs and 40 caused turnovers last season for Babson.
