Lacrosse is in Your Gift Box For the Holidays

Boston Box Lacrosse League hosts late-December pick-up games

The Boston Box Lacrosse League is hosting pick-up lacrosse during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Day, with two-hour runs scheduled for December 19 and 26 at South Shore Sports Center in Hingham.

The evenings run from 9 – 11 p.m.; cost is $20 per player, with players currently on a BBLL roster paying $10. Play is limited to adults, so all players must be over the age of 18.

Holiday open play is a BBLL tradition, allowing college students home for the holidays a chance to get a good workout, while allowing Boston-area adults to get a taste of what the BBLL is all about. The BBLL provides jerseys for all players.

“We have had a lot of fun over the years hosting pick-up games for the holidays, with close and competitive games played in the holiday spirit, and we expect that to be the case again this year,” said BBLL founder Randy Fraser. “It’s a good way for guys to come experience box, whether they just want to see what the buzz is about, decide if they might be interested in our summer league, or to introduce themselves to our team captains hoping to get a future roster spot in our fall-winter league.

“The crowd at our pick-up games is pretty diverse,” he added. “There are current, active players in the league to guys who played in the past but have been too busy to keep up all the time, to college kids, former players getting a run in with friends and more. It’s a great run, always competitive, but light and fun, a real no-pressure way to play, and we’re hoping for two more good games this year..”
