Brown Travels Across Town To Battle #20 Providence

Providence, R.I. – Brown and #20 Providence will meet on the lacrosse field for the 23rd time when the two cross-town rivals battle on Tuesday, April 18 on the PC campus at Chapey Field.  The two teams will be competing for the Ocean State Cup and all the action starts at 7:00 pm.

The Bears: Brown (5-5, 2-2 Ivy) is coming off an 18-12 loss to Yale last Saturday, despite getting four goals from sophomore attackman Jackson Newsome, and three goals from senior All-American attackman Dylan Molloy.

The Friars:  #20 Providence extended its record to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the Big East with a 9-7 win over Marquette on Saturday.  The Friars have also earned wins over Holy Cross (10-4), Bryant (7-6), Vermont (8-6), High Point (17-8), UMass Lowell (11-4), Drexel (9-8 ot), St. John’s (15-6) and Georgetown (13-7), with losses to Boston University (8-7 ot), Sacred Heart (10-8) and Hofstra (11-10).

The Brown-Providence Series Record: Brown and Providence have met 22 times, dating back to 1989, with the Bears holding a 22-0 series advantage over the Friars.  Last year, Kylor Bellistri scored four goals and Matt Graham registered a hat-trick to lead the third-ranked Brown men’s lacrosse team to a 16-10 win over the Friars.

Did you know? Only three players in Brown history have registered 100 or more assists: Darren Lowe ’92, who distributed a school record 205 assists from 1989-1992, Dylan Molloy ’17, who currently has 114 assists and Rick Handelman ‘80, who handed out 109 assists from 1978-1980… Brown ranks fourth nationally in scoring with 14.20 goals per game…The Bears also rank second in the nation with 37 ground balls per game.
