MANCHESTER, N.H. – For the first time this season, the Saint Anselm men’s lacrosse team cracked the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Men’s Top 20, coming in at No. 20 in this week’s poll, which was released on Monday.
After receiving votes in last week’s poll, Saint Anselm (1-1) moved into the top 20 after routing American International College 18-2 in its Northeast-10 Conference opener in the snow on Friday. The Hawks were one of five NE10 teams ranked in this week’s poll, joining No. 1 Le Moyne, No. 3 Merrimack, No. 7 Pace and No. 9 Adelphi.
The Hawks also received votes in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Nike Division II Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Poll.
Twelve different players recorded at least one point for Saint Anselm in the win over AIC. Mark Vitello led the way with four goals and one assist, while Patrick Sweeney also scored four times for the Hawks, held a 59-14 advantage in shots in the game.
Saint Anselm was originally scheduled to host ninth-ranked Adelphi on Wednesday but that game has been postponed.
