BOSTON – University of Vermont freshman attackman Ben French has been named the America East Rookie of the Week for the period ending February 19, as announced by the league office on Monday.
America East Release
It is his first Rookie of the week selection.
French made an immediate splash this past Saturday (Feb. 18) as the Catamounts opened their home schedule with a 14-8 win over Holy Cross at Virtue Field. The economics major and Toronto, Ontario native put UVM on the board less than two minutes into the game and added four more goals over the course of the afternoon, while also dishing out an assist on Dawes Milchling‘s first quarter goal.
Since Virtue Field opened in the Spring of 2012, no Catamount prior to French has scored five goals in a home lid-lifter.
With the result Saturday, the Green and Gold locked up a 3-0 start to the season, a feat that has not happened at UVM since the 2001 season. In addition, it also made Chris Feifs the first head coach in program history to begin his tenure in Burlington with three straight wins.
Vermont heads back on the road this weekend and is at Providence on Saturday (Feb. 25) for a 1 p.m. matchup, which will be played at Chapey Field.
