SPARKS, Md. – The Saint Anselm College women’s lacrosse team is ranked No. 20 in the 2017 Nike/US Lacrosse Women’s Division II Preseason Poll, which was released on Wednesday.
Saint Anselm is one of seven teams from the Northeast-10 Conference in the preseason top 20. Joining the Hawks in the poll are No. 2 Adelphi, No. 5 Le Moyne, No. 12 Bentley, No. 17 Stonehill, No. 18 Pace and No. 19 Southern New Hampshire.
The Hawks return 12 members of last season’s team that finished 7-8 overall and 6-7 in the NE10, missing out on a spot in the NE10 Championship in a three-way tiebreaker after one-goal losses to American International and Pace.
Leading the group of returners are All-NE10 Second Team pick Liv Connly, NE10 All-Rookie selection Molly Beck and last season’s third-leading scorer Erica Mattila. Connly was named to the second team for the second time in her career after starting all 15 games in defense and registering 17 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. Beck tallied 12 goals and six assists from midfield, while Mattila ranked third on the team with 30 goals and 22 points.
Saint Anselm opens its season with a four-game trip to Florida in early March, beginning with a game at Florida Tech on Saturday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m.
