In addition, UVM was projected to finish fourth in America East and qualify for the conference tournament for the third consecutive season. Albany was slotted first in the poll ahead of Hartford and Stony Brook, while UMBC and Binghamton were placed in a tie for fifth. UMass Lowell rounded out the poll in seventh place.
The honor is the latest in a long line for awards for MacKay, who is actively riding a 45-game point streak which ranks sixth among active Division I players. The Port Elgin, Ontario product amassed 70 points via 42 goals and 28 assists in 2016, later being rewarded as America East Offensive Player of the Year. He continues to etch his name in the UVM record book, finishing last season sixth in both career points (171) and goals (111). Drew Philie (2010-13) ranks fifth in points with 176, while Gordon Allen (1994-97) sits fifth all-time with 116 goals.
Milligan finished last season second on the team in scoring after racking up 56 points on 30 goals and 26 helpers. His tally with 3:26 remaining in the America East Semifinals lifted the Catamounts to a 10-9 win over Stony Brook and propelled UVM to its first America East Championship Game appearance. The 2016 America East All-Tournament Team honoree ranks sixth all-time in program history in career assists (64) and is a native of Peterborough, Ontario. Milligan needs just one more helper to enter a tie for fifth with Tim Shannehan, who registered 65 from 1988-91.
Vermont opens its first season under head coach Chris Feifs on Thursday, Feb. 2 with a 3 p.m. tilt at Furman in Macon, Georgia.
