Providence Friars Release 2017 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – As the Providence College men’s lacrosse program prepares for the 2017 regular-season schedule, the Friars will host UMass in a fall scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 14 in Providence, R.I. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The scrimmage is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The match-up sets the stage for what fans will see in 2017, and offers a window of opportunity to releases the program’s regular-season schedule.

The Friars begin the season with a preseason scrimmage against Siena on Saturday, Jan. 28 in Providence, R.I.

Providence officially opens the 2017 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 4 as it plays host to Boston University on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The Friars then hit the road for back-to-back games against Holy Cross and Bryant. The match-up against the Crusaders is set for Saturday, Feb. 11 in Worcester, Mass. The Friars and Bulldogs will meet on Saturday, Feb. 18 in Smithfield, R.I., as part of the Ocean State Cup.

Providence closes the month of February with a non-conference tilt against Vermont on Saturday the 25th. The Friars’ game against Vermont marks the start of a three-game home stand, as Providence remains home during spring break to host Sacred Heart (Saturday, Mar. 4) and High Point (Saturday, Mar. 11).

On Saturday, March 18, the Friars will face Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y., before making their way to Lowell, Mass. on Tuesday, Mar. 21 to face the River Hawks of UMass Lowell.

Providence will play against Drexel on Sunday, Mar. 26 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.

BIG EAST Conference action kicks off on Saturday, Apr. 1 as the Friars travel to Queens, N.Y. to take on St. John’s. Providence will host Georgetown in its BIG EAST home opener at Anderson Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 8.

Providence remains at home on Chapey Field to face BIG EAST foe Marquette on Saturday, Apr. 15.

The Friars conclude non-conference play against Brown University in an Ocean State Cup match-up on Tuesday, Apr. 18, before heading to Denver for a conference game on Saturday, Apr. 22.

On Saturday, Apr. 29, the Friars will host Villanova in Providence, R.I. for the final regular-season game of the year.

The 2017 BIG EAST Conference Tournament is scheduled to be played May 4-6. The location of the tournament has not yet been released.
