Cannons Re-Sign Fiorito and Belisle

Boston, M.A. – The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse, the premier outdoor professional lacrosse league, announced today that they agreed to multiyear contracts with goaltender Tyler Fiorito and defenseman Mitch Belisle through the 2018 season.

“Like Max earlier in the week, re-signing with Boston was an easy decision for me,” said goalie Tyler Fiorito.

“The entire Cannons’ organization and the Boston community welcomed me from day one and I had an incredible experience in my first season.  There is without a doubt no better front office in the MLL in terms of marketing in the community and raising support for the team.  I am already counting down the days until training camp to get back up to Boston with my teammates for the 2017 season.”

In his first season with the Cannons, Fiorito finished 2016 with a career best 8-6 record and was a crucial piece of the puzzle. The goaltender posted a 13.01 goals against average and his .540 save percentage ranked third overall in the league. Fiorito was also the runner-up in the Goalie of the Year voting and earned the Warrior Defensive Player of the Week honors following his 23 save performance in the overtime victory against the Lizards.

“Tyler is one of the most mentally and toughest goalies I have ever seen,” said Cannons Head Coach Sean Quirk.  “His consistent play and attitude separates him from being one of the best to being one of the greatest!  Along with being a top MLL goalie, he would be my choice for the USA team in 2018. He is a quiet leader that everyone respects in the Cannons organization”

Defenseman Mitch Belisle became the third Cannon to sign for the 2017 season as he also inked a multiyear contract.  Belisle is Boston’s all-time games played leader, having suited up 92 times in the Cannons red, white and blue.

“Mitch is a Boston Cannon,” said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney.  “He embodies everything we want from someone who wears our uniform.  He plays the game right, he plays the game hard and he respects the game, his opponent, his teammates and the fans.  He has been our captain and led the Cannons to the 2011 MLL Championship.  I am excited to have him signed for the next two seasons”

Belisle played in 11 games this past year for the Cannons, collecting 15 ground balls.  On June 23, he scored his third career goal in the Cannons 17-14 victory over Chesapeake.

“I am excited to continue my journey with my Boston Cannons teammates, a first-class organization and the MLL’s best fans. I look forward to bringing another Championship to Boston and continuing to build the Cannons legacy.”

On Monday, the Cannons announced the signing of midfielder Max Seibald to an extension through the 2017 MLL season.  All three players signed so far by the Cannons would have been eligible for the new Player Movement Policy but chose to sign with Boston and commit to being with the Cannons for 2017.
