MANCHESTER, Mass. – Nine different players registered at least one point as the #20 Saint Anselm College women’s lacrosse team defeated Post University, 24-1, on Thursday afternoon at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H. The Hawks improve to 1-0 with the win, while the Eagles drop to 0-2.
Caitlin Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored six times, while Erin Marshall (Woburn, Mass.) recorded five goals and added an assist to go with four draw controls. Erica Mattila (Westford, Mass.) added four goals, with Michelle Kudlate (Waltham, Mass.) and Rachel Henderson (Powell, Ohio) having five point days as Kudlate scored twice and had three assists and Henderson scored a goal and handed out four helpers.
Emma Palumbo (Sudbury, Mass.) found the back of the net twice, and Molly Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) scored her first two career goals in the win while also grabbing a team-high three groundballs. Marta Versprille (Franklin, Mass.) and Katie McKenna (Danvers, Mass.) each added a goal, with McKenna adding an assist and Versprille corralling a game-high six draw controls.
Jane Bunn (St. Johns, Fla.) picked up her first win of the season while playing the first half and not facing a shot. Bunn moves into tie atop the record book for most career wins with 21 victories, tying the mark set by Meghan Briggs ’02. Zoie Cavotta (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) played the final 30 minutes, allowing only one goal.
Post received a goal from Sam Rodriguez with Jordan Woltzmann picking up an assist. Monica Kochurin suffered the setback for the Eagles, making three saves on the day.
The Hawks held a 29-1 advantage in shots in the game and grabbed 21 draw controls to just five for the visitors. The Hawks also committed fewer turnovers (7) and went 6-for-7 on clear attempts.
Saint Anselm returns to action on Friday, March 18 in a 7:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference game at American International College.
