WORCESTER, Mass. –Holy Cross head men’s lacrosse coach Judd Lattimore and director of athletics Nathan Pine have announced the team’s schedule for the 2016 season. The Crusaders have 14 regular season games on their schedule, hosting six at home.
The Crusaders will begin the season on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Providence. The Crusaders will then travel to Vermont (Feb 20) and Harvard (Feb. 23), followed by their first Patriot League game with a contest at Lehigh (Feb. 27). the Crusaders will then host their home-opener against Loyola (Md.) on March 5.
On March 8, the Crusaders will host 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Brown, marking the first time the two teams have played each other in 25 years (March 20, 1990). Holy Cross will next face Bucknell (March 12) at home then hit the road for another Patriot League game at Army West Point (March 19). The Crusaders will then host Jacksonville (March 26) at home and will be back on the road for their next two games versus Hartford (March 29) and Navy (April 2).
The Crusaders will finish off regular season play with a home game against Lafayette (April 9), a road contest versus 2015 Patriot League Tournament champion Colgate (April 16) and a home game versus Boston University (April 22) in a Turnpike Trophy game.
The Patriot League Tournament will feature a six-team field with a pair of quarterfinal games played at the site of the higher-seeded team, with the sixth-seed visiting the third-seed and the fifth-seed at the fourth-seed. Those winners will then join the top two seeds in the weekend semifinal and championship rounds, played at the site of the highest overall seed in the tournament. The brackets will re-seed after the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinals will be on April 26 with the semifinals on April 29 and the championship game on May 1.
The Crusaders went 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the Patriot League last season. The Crusaders’ three league wins set the program record for Patriot League victories. Holy Cross also earned its first two ever wins versus nationally ranked teams. The Crusaders defeated No. 8 Loyola (Md.) by a 13-12 score on Feb. 21 and posted a 7-6 victory versus No. 9 Army West Point on March. 7. The win versus the Black Knights was the first ever for the Crusaders against Army West Point which had won the previous 24 meetings. The Crusaders’ 9.23 goals scored per game were their most since the 1993 team netted 9.80 goals per game.
