BOSTON – Highlighted by eight home games, including the regular-season finale against Duke, the Boston University men’s lacrosse team and head coach Ryan Polley announced the Terriers’ 2016 schedule on Monday.
The Terriers tripled their win total last season in just their second year as a varsity program, earning six victories and coming within a game of the Patriot League Tournament. BU will once again face a challenging schedule that includes two former national champions and three teams that qualified for the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
“Our 2016 schedule will once again provide our team with a chance to play against some of the country’s best teams as we continue our progression as a program.” Polley said. “We’re looking forward to another competitive season in the Patriot League as well as playing three NCAA tournament teams from last year in Colgate, Duke and High Point.”
Four of the Terriers’ first five games will be at Nickerson Field, including the season opener against Providence on Feb. 6. Three of those five games will be against first-time opponents, including a Feb. 13 clash with UMass Lowell and a midweek game at High Point on Feb. 16. BU and Hartford will meet for the first time at Nickerson Field on Feb. 20 before the Terriers open their Patriot League schedule at home against Navy on Feb. 27.
Following a trip to Canisius on March 5, the Terriers will play seven of their eight remaining games against conference foes. Defending Patriot League champion Colgate, a team the Terriers beat last season, comes to Nickerson on March 12. Three straight road tilts then await the Terriers, with stops at Bucknell (March 19), Harvard (March 22) and Lafayette (March 26) on the docket.
BU will host a homecoming game on April 2 when Lehigh visits Boston. Army is in town on April 9 before the Terriers travel to Loyola Maryland (April 16) and Holy Cross (April 22) to wrap up the conference portion of their schedule. Turnpike Trophy points will be on the line as well when BU and Holy Cross meet.
The Patriot League Tournament will begin with the quarterfinal round on April 26 before the semifinals (April 29) and championship (May 1). BU will host Duke on May 8 to conclude its regular-season schedule. This will be the third straight season that the Terriers have faced Duke.
