CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Chris Wojcik ’96, The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Lacrosse, has announced the team’s 2016 schedule which features six games to be played in Cambridge and six contests against opponents which competed in the 2015 NCAA tournament.
“I am excited to announce our schedule for the 2016 season. Once again, we have assembled a strong out of conference slate of games,” commented Wojcik. “Overall, we will play programs from eight of the 10 Division I conferences, including six teams that participated in last year’s NCAA tournament. The challenging out of conference schedule will prepare us for the Ivy League season. We are proud to be a part of a great league, and the conference race will once again by very competitive.”
The Crimson will begin the year with home games against Villanova (Feb. 20) and Holy Cross (Feb. 23). Its first road trip will start with a journey to Amherst to face UMass (Feb. 27) and on to Long Island for a neutral-site meeting with Duke (Mar. 5) at Hofstra.The Blue Devils reached the NCAA tournament in 2015 and finished the year ranked eighth in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
Harvard will continue its four-game road swing at Bryant (Mar. 8), which played in the NCAA tournament play-in game a year ago, and Penn State (Mar. 12). Brown (Mar. 19), which reached the first round of the NCAA tournament and ranked 12th at the end of the season, and Boston University (Mar. 22) await the squad when it returns to Cambridge.
Harvard will host Dartmouth (Mar. 26) before heading out to face Albany (Mar. 30), which finished last season ranked seventh by Inside Lacrosse after reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Crimson will then travel to Ithaca, New York to meet Cornell (April 9), which ranked 13th in the final Inside Lacrosse poll following its NCAA tournament appearance, before heading to Penn (April 16).
After returning home to host Princeton (April 23), Harvard will end its regular season with a trip to Yale (April 20), which also reached the first round of the NCAA tournament in 2015 and finished the year ranked 10th by Inside Lacrosse.
The Ivy League Tournament will be held Friday, April 29 and Sunday, May 1 and will be hosted by the Ivy League’s regular season champion. The winner of the conference tournament will receive the Ancient Eight’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
All home contests and Ivy League road contests not picked up for TV will be broadcasted live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
