Boston Box Lacrosse League to Host Holiday Pick-Up Ball

Open-floor play around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays

For the first time, the Boston Box Lacrosse League is adding pick-up ball around Thanksgiving to its holiday tradition of open play around the holidays. The league is offering pick-up lacrosse on Tuesday, November 24 – two days ahead of Thanksgiving – and then for consecutive Tuesdays, consecutive Tuesdays, December 22 and 29, at the South Shore Sports Center in Hingham, Mass.

The evenings run from 9 – 11 p.m.; cost is $20 per player.

Holiday open play is a BBLL tradition, allowing Boston-area adults to get a taste of what the BBLL is all about, while also giving college players a chance to get a good holiday workout. The holiday sessions tend to run the full two hours, with a brief warm-up leading to an extended game. The BBLL provides jerseys for all players.

Play is limited to adults, so all players must be over the age of 18.

“This is a really fun thing we have been doing for a couple of years, and it’s a good chance for guys to come experience box, whether it’s that they want to see what the buzz is about, decide if they want to play when they come home in the summer or introduce themselves to our team captains hoping to get a future roster spot,” said BBLL founder Randy Fraser. “We have a wide mix at pick-up games, from guys who are current, active players in the league to guys who played in the past but have been too busy to keep up all the time, to college kids and more. It’s a no-pressure way to experience box and — no matter why you are there — you’re going to get a great run.”
