Blazers Set Scoring Record; PrimeTime Upends Bullseye

PrimeTime’s Brendan Grant — 7 points in win – is ‘Legit Player of the Week’

Brendan Grant scored four goals and added three assists to key PrimeTime to a 15-10 win over BullsEye as the Boston Box Lacrosse League finished the first one-third of its fall-winter season on Nov. 3 at South Shore Sports center in Hingham, Mass.

While Grant’s efforts earned “Legit Player of the Week” honors, Jason Wellemeyer and Dustin Vitagliano both chipped in with four goals of their own for PrimeTime, which scored seven of the first nine goals of the second half to break open a close game. Ken Keirstead added two goals and two assists for the winners and goalie Jason Brooks — filling in for Karl Hoffman — made 33 saves in the game and repeatedly snuffed Bullseye’s opportunities to get back into the game. Fiver different players scored twice each for Bullseye.

In the nightcap, Team Legit continued its habit of getting strong starts, but the Blazers used a five-goal run to break a 3-3 tie, and the rout was on. The Blazers scored 26 goals, eclipsing the previous high of 24, which was achieved by the MegaMen when the league was in its first season and games were played in Revere.

The onslaught was led by Marty Bowes, who had five goals and seven assists for 12 points. Brandon Dube added 6 goals and three helpers, Greg Rogowski netted five goals and two assists and Kyle Baker and Randy Fraser both came through with six-point nights. Defenders Kyle Barnett and Mike Nadler both scored twice.

Brandon Keith led Team Legit with five goals, while Bryce Serriello added four.

With the BBLL season now one-third in the books, the first round-robin showed just how close the competition is likely to be all winter long, with close games and upsets throughout for the top four teams.

The BBLL returns to the floor on Nov. 10, with the MegaWhales facing off against Team Legit, before the Blazers take on PrimeTime in the nightcap.
