Blazers come from behind; MegaWhales dominate

Greg Rogowski earns ‘Legit Player of the Week’ honors keying Blazer comeback

The Boston Box Lacrosse League’s premier fall-winter season got off to a great start on October 6 as the defending-champion Blazers had to mount a furious rally to overcome PrimeTime by a final score of 11-9.

PrimeTime opened the scoring with a Brendan Grant goal immediately off the opening face-off and held the lead until the game was tied with just over 10:30 remaining in the second half. Down the stretch, however, the Blazers proved too strong, stringing together seven consecutive scores to go from being down by three to controlling the game to escape with the win.

Greg Rogowski led the Blazers with four goals and an assist, but also registered five loose balls and two caused turnovers to earn “Legit Player of the Week” honors as the league’s most outstanding player during its opening week.

Garrett Naimie contributed a hat trick, and Kyle Baker and Marty Bowes both netted two goals of their own in the win. Grant finished his night with two goals and four assists to lead PrimeTime.

In the opening game of the BBLL season earlier in the night, the new squad, Team Legit, scored the game’s first three goals, but then never scored again as the MegaWhales scored 16 and didn’t allow a score in the game’s final 41 minutes. Mark Goodrich and TJ Dahill both scored hat ticks with an assist to lead the MegaWhales, who also got two goals each from Nick Coppola, Sean Hover and Dan Hettler.

When league play resumes on October 13, Team Legit squares off against PrimeTime, with Bullseye making its season debut against the MegaWhales in the nightcap.
