BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Ninth Annual Northeast Classic – Face Off Against Cancer Tournament will take place on Sunday, Oct. 11 at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts. Games are scheduled to take place starting at 8 a.m. and run through 6 p.m.
The 12 teams set to compete in this year’s tournament include: Holy Cross, Manhattan, Sacred Heart, Vermont, Bentley, Southern New Hampshire, St. Mike’s, St. Rose, Babson, Emmanuel, US Coast Guard, and Bishops. Each team is scheduled to play two full-length scrimmages throughout the day.
The Northeast Classic is a private event run by the family of head coach Ryan Curtis. The University of Vermont men’s lacrosse team has played a major role in fundraising for the cause and spreading awareness for screening and prevention. Since its formation nine years ago, the event has generated over $200,000 for cancer research.
A current member of the 2015 squad has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Osteosarcoma occurs most frequently in males between the ages of 10 and 30. The UVM men’s lacrosse family has rallied around him and his family this season to fundraise in their name. All of the proceeds will be donated to cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
