Brown Garners Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Selection

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Bentley University attacker Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) was selected to the Northeast-10 Women’s Lacrosse Academic All-Conference team for the second straight year, it was announced on Tuesday.

Brown had a stellar senior season for the Falcons, who finished the 2015 season ranked No. 19 in Division II by the IWLCA after going 10-6 (9-4 NE-10). She led the team in goals (43) and points (50), which placed her ninth in the NE-10 in goals. She garnered a number of recognitions, including IWLCA third team All-North Region and Northeast-10 Player of the Week on April 14.

Off the field, Brown posted a 3.70 GPA while pursuing her Masters in accountancy. She earned a degree in corporate finance and accounting as an undergrad.

Brown finished her Bentley career with 124 goals, good for sixth most in program history, and 150 points.

 

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Jake Stokes (Beverly, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College men’s lacrosse team was named to the Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Academic All-Conference Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

Stokes, one of 12 men’s lacrosse athletes to earn the honor, appeared in 12 games, including 10 starts, this season for the Hawks. The long stick midfielder finished the year with three goals and three assists for six total points and finished second on the team in both ground balls (61) and caused turnovers (14). His 61 ground balls also placed him seventh in the conference. The biochemistry major’s best offensive performance of the season came April 1 at crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University when he set career highs in goals (2) and points (3) in a 12-11 overtime victory.

To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team’s competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 24 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
