Marc Mesh Player of the Week Sam Ozycz corrals 20 loose balls in comeback win
Down 10-5 at half, the MegaMen outscored BullsEye 13-2 during the second half to set up a date with the unbeaten Blazers in the winter finals of the Boston Box Lacrosse League on March 24.
Faceoff man Sam Ozycz set a league record with 20 loose balls on the evening, allowing the MegaMen to go on their lengthy run, which was led by 10- and 9-point performances from Bryan Bendig and Mike Maggio. Bendig scored seven goals and added three assists, with Maggio netting six goals and three assists. Dan Hettler went 2-1, and T.J. Dahill and Matt Levesque both had multi-point nights for the MegaMen. Beau Wood netted five goals and three assists to lead BullsEye, which got a hat trick from Brett Serriello and multi-point games from Ryan Danehy and Greg Paul.
In the March 17 opener, the Blazers broke a 2-2 deadlock by scoring eight of the game’s remaining nine goals, getting out to a 10-3 win. League-leading scorer Marty Bowes led the win with five goals, while Brandon Dube added three goals and two assists, and Randy Fraser had a multi-point night.
The win sets up a winter rematch of the fall finals, which the Blazers won 9-8 over the MegaMen. The title game will be played at 9 p.m. on March 24; PrimeTime and BullsEye will play a consolation game at 10 p.m.
