MegaMen Beat PrimeTime to Set Playoff Lineup

Steve Trocki’s 4 goals, 3 assists capture Marc Mesh Player of the Week honors

The MegaMen broke open an 8-7 game with a solid second-half run to top PrimeTime 16-10 and capture third place in the winter session of the Boston Box Lacrosse League, with the start of the playoffs looming next week. In the March 10 nightcap at South Shore Sports Center, the Blazers’ unbeaten session was in jeopardy with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, before a four-goal run broke open the game en route to a 14-10 win over BullsEye.

In the opening game, Mike Maggio netted six goals and Dan Hettler added four goals and three assists, but it was Steve Trocki’s seven-point night that earned Marc Mesh Player of the Week honors. Trocki not only scored four goals and three assists to match Hettler, but he corralled seven loose balls and added two caused turnovers while also sharing faceoff duties on the evening. Brendan Grant led PrimeTime with five goals, while Jason Wellemeyer and Johnathan DeAngelis both had multi-point nights.

BullsEye and the Blazers played to a 4-4 halftime tie and no team ever got a two-goal lead deep into the second half. But after Todd Zahurak netted a Greg Lally feed to give BullsEye a 9-8 lead – its first lead since 4-3 – the Blazers responded with a quick four-goal run that helped clinch a perfect 8-0 regular season.

Brandon Dube led the defending champs with four goals and three assists, while Marty Bowes – the league’s leading scorer – added two goals and two assists. Randy Fraser and Garrett Naimiue both scored twice for the Blazers. Joe Evans made 30 saves in the win. Zahurak’s four points led BullsEye, which got multi-point nights from Lally, Dan DiMaria and Ryan Danehy.

With the regular season complete, the Blazers are primed to play PrimeTme in the first round of the playoffs on March 17, with BullsEye to face the MegaMen in the nightcap. The league championship game will be played March 24.
