Zahurak’s snags 12 loose balls en route to Marc Mesh Player of the Week honors
Brandon Dube netted the game winner with 1:28 remaining in regulation as the Blazers took a stranglehold on first place with a win over PrimeTime, while BullsEye staved off a late comeback attempt by the MegaMen in Week 4 play in the Boston Box Lacrosse League winter session on February 3.
In the opener, eight different BullsEye players registered multi-point games, led by four points from Ben Knapton and a hat trick from Dan DiMaria. Greg Lally, Ryan Danehy, Beau Wood, Marc Goodrich Todd Zahurak and Danny Bialosky all registered at least a goal and an assist on the evening. Zahurak earned Marc Mesh Player of the Week honors for corralling 12 loose balls, to go with two caused turnovers and a goal and an assist.
Bryan Bendig finished with six goals and two assists to take over the league’s goal and points lead, with Bryant Armitrano adding a hat trick and Dan Hettler chipping in with four points and 14 loose balls to lead the MegaMen.
In the nightcap, Dube’s goal ended the scoring in a back-and-forth contest that saw multiple lead changes throughout. The goal was one of three on the night for Dube, while the Blazers also got two goals and three assists from Marty Bowes, plus a pair of goals from Pete Smyth. Mike Vergano – subbing in for league-leading goalie Joe Evans – made 29 saves in the win.
PrimeTime – which won the battle for loose balls and got more shots on goal during the contest — got three goals each from Jason Wellemeyer and John DeAngelis. Mike Stone chipped in with a goal and an assist.
The win gives the Blazers an early stranglehold on first place, at 4-0, with BullsEye and the MegaMen checking in at 2-2. On Feb. 10, the Blazers meet BullsEye in the opener, while PrimeTime squares off with the MegaMen at 10.
