Redshirt-senior duo selected as team leaders for upcoming season
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men’s lacrosse head coach Greg Cannella announced redshirt seniors Ryan Izzo and Peter Von Rosenvinge as the 2015 team captains on Thursday, Jan. 8.
“Ryan and Peter are fifth-year players that have been great leaders for us over the last few seasons,” Cannella said. “They possess a great understanding of what UMass lacrosse is all about – their maturity, knowledge and insight has helped all of our players, young and old. We as coaches look forward to continue working with Ryan and Peter as we move forward into the 2015 season. Their proper and positive leadership, along with the help of our other seniors and upperclassmen, will be essential to our success.”
Izzo, a midfielder with 44 career games played and 28 appearances in the starting lineup, has 83 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers with 10 points via seven goals and three assists. The Walpole, Massachusetts, native was named USILA All-America as a redshirt-junior in 2014 and has also been tabbed NEILA All-Region, All-CAA and CAA All-Tournament in his career.
Von Rosenvinge owns 15 career appearances as a reserve close defenseman, including 10 during the 2014 season when he was a redshirt-junior. Von Rosenvinge enters his final season with the program with three caused turnovers and a groundball.
The Minutemen open the 2015 schedule with a Saturday, Feb. 7 contest against Army on Garber Field in Amherst, Massachusetts. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
