Blazers, BullsEye Set Up Battle For Regular-Season Crown

Brandon Dube’s 8 points earn Marc Mesh Player of the Week honors

The two teams controlling their own destiny in the Boston Box Lacrosse League will meet with the regular-season title on the line in the final game of that regular season, after taking care of business in convincing wins on November 19. The Blazers dispatched PrimeTime 15-7, while BullsEye dropped the MegaMen 12-9, setting up a winner-gets-first-place game on Dec. 2. The Boston Box League’s playoff round starts December 9 at the South Shore Sports Center in Hingham.

Brandon Dube scored seven goals and added an assist to power the Blazers, potting those markers on 15 shots on goal and adding six loose balls to earn his second Marc Mesh Player of the Week honor of the season. Dube stands second in the league in scoring, but has amassed his points in just five games, and is leading the league in points per game.

The Blazers got multi-point games from Kurt Hunziker, Garrett Naimie, Sean Hover, Nick Coppola, Randy Fraser and Gabe Maxwell, and Joe Evans turned away 22 shots.Spencer Low and Brendan Grant both scored two goals to lead PrimeTime.

In the nightcap, BullsEye took down the MegaMen for the first time in three meetings behind a four-goal night for Beau Wood. Greg Lally and Todd Zahurak both contributed two goals and two assists and Mark Goodrich, Adam Haig and Mike Rasmussen all had multi-point nights. Dan Hettler and Bobby Dabrieo netted two goals apiece for the MegaMen.

While the Blazers lead BullsEye in the BBLL standings by a game — at 6-2 compared to BullsEye’s 5-3 record – the two teams have split their first-two meetings, meaning that a BullsEye win on Dec. 2 would leave the teams tied atop the standings, but would give BullsEye the top seed for the playoff round based on head-to-head play.

The league will not have games during Thanksgiving week.
