MegaMen Grab Early BBLL Lead; Blazers Earn First Win

Bryan Bendig earns Marc Mesh Player of the Week honors

The MegaMen got six points each from Bryan Bendig and Brian Krol and turned a 6-6 game midway through the first half into a laugher, downing BullsEye 22-13 to take over first place in the Boston Box Lacrosse League. The defending champion Blazers got their first win of the session in the October 7 opener, topping PrimeTime by a 14-6 score.

Marc Mesh player of the game Bendig finished his night with five goals, an assist and two caused turnovers, leading an onslaught that saw nine different MegaMen notch goals and 13 of the 17 players dressed for the game register points. Krol added five goals, Bobby Dabrieo added three goals and two assists, and Mike Maggio added a hat trick for the winners. The MegaMen dominated the stat sheet, grabbing 59 loose balls, to 42 for BullsEye, and putting 54 shots on goal, compared to 35 for the losers. For BullsEye, Mark Goodrich and Ryan Danehy both notched two goals and two assists.

In the night’s opening action, the Blazers overcame a slow start, breaking a 2-2 tie with eight straight goals to take control of the game and hold off PrimeTime. Randy Fraser (3 goals, 2 assists) and Garrett Naimie (1 goal, 4 assists) led the way with five points each, while Brendan Ketih and Kurt Hunziker both registered hat tricks. The Blazers dominated the battle for loose balls 80-57, but PrimeTime kept the game close with an aggressive defense that registered 19 caused turnovers, led by five from Anthony Fitti. Ken Keirstead and Jason Wellemeyer both scored twice for PrimeTime.

The MegaMen will seek to exceed their winter-league win total on October 14, when they meet PrimeTime, while the Blazers and BullsEye will break their second-place tie in the nightcap.
