St. Anselm Women’s Lacrosse Earns First NCAA Tournament Berth in Program History

INDIANAPOLIS – The 12th-ranked Saint Anselm College women’s lacrosse team captured its first ever NCAA Tournament berth after receiving the North Region’s No. 4 seed, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Sunday night.

The Hawks (13-4), who have set a program record with 13 wins this season, will travel to take on top-seeded and top-ranked Adelphi University (19-0) at Motamed Field on Saturday, May 10 at noon. Saint Anselm hosted the Panthers at Grappone Stadium back on April 12 in the only meeting between the two teams this season. Despite trailing by just one at 7-6 with 11:59 remaining in the first half, the Hawks dropped a 21-11 decision after Adelphi scored eight straight goals. The 11 goals matched a season high for most allowed by the Panthers.

The winner moves on to the National Semifinals and Final, which will be played May 17 and 18. The championship will be co-hosted by Salem, Va, and the Mountain East Conference at Kerr Stadium on the campus of Roanoke University.

Saint Anselm is coming off a heartbreaking 15-14 loss to the fourth-ranked and second-seeded University of New Haven in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship at Adelphi on May 3. The Hawks, who earned the third seed with a 9-3 record in conference play, defeated sixth-seeded Bentley University, 17-10, at home April 30 for their first Northeast-10 Championship victory in program history.
