Daniel Webster College Eagles
The Daniel Webster College Eagles finished last spring with a 1-11 record, including 0-9 in GNAC play. This marks the final spring for the Eagles as members of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, next spring they will be members of the New England Collegiate Conference. Heading into 2014 the Eagles are expecting to be more competitive according to head coach Kyle Devitte. This will be coach Devitte’s sixth season as head coach of the Eagles. He went on to say that his coaching staff is bigger, they have some new players and a strong group of returning scorers this spring.
Leading the charge offensively for the Eagles will be Anthony Cotoni. Cotoni a sophomore attack finished 2013 with 24 goals and 4 assists. While the defense will be lead by Kyle Russell. Russell a sophomore LSM had 19 groundballs and 3 caused turnovers last spring. He will be the only returning upperclassman to an entirely new defense that will be made up of several freshman.
This spring the Daniel Webster College men’s lacrosse team plan on honoring the military and a former lacrosse player. They will honor U.S. Army Spc. Mitch Daehling who was killed this summer from and IED explosion in Kandahar. Coach Devitte told us that Mitch was one his first players when he begin coaching at Daniel Webster. The Eagles will be working with the Wounded Warrior Project and their alumni to make t-shirts and banners to honor Mitch and all branches of the armed services throughout the spring.
A favorite this spring in the GNAC has to Norwich. The Cadets are the favorites because of the great recruiting job they do every year according to coach Devitte. A dark-horse in the GNAC could be Daniel Webster. They haven’t won a lot of games lately, but not many teams like playing the Eagles.
