Endicott College Gulls
The Endicott College Gulls won 13 games in 2013, but the last game of the season hurt. The Gulls lost in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship to Western New England, 5-9. Heading into the 2014 season the Gulls have the same goals that they have had for years. Head coach Sean Quirk said, “our standard goal is to win the CCC championship and win NCAA tournament games.” They may have lost All-American face-off specialist Sam Ozycz, but the Gulls return two pre-season All-American selections. Those two pre-season All-American selections are senior Breck Merritt and sophomore Cameron Bell. Merritt is a pre-season 3rd team selection at defense, while Bell is an honorable mention selection in goal. Coach Quirk went on to say that the Gulls are returning their entire first two lines of midfield, two of three starting attack as well as their entire defense. Also, looking to fill the shoes of Ozycz will be freshman Thomas Hughes out of Longwood, New York.
Leading the attack will be junior Nick Pinciaro and junior Kyle Weber. Pinciaro is the leading scorer from last springs squad. He scored 31 goals and dished out 19 assists, while Weber had 33 goals and 9 assists. The midfield will be lead by junior Harrison Cotter and junior Joshua Tordik. Harrison had 23 goals and 13 assists, while Tordik had 15 goals and 30 assists in 2013. Coach Quirk is also looking to Quinnipiac transfer Sam Scoba to fit right in at attack this spring. The defense will be lead by Merritt at close defense and Bell on the back end.
A favorite this spring in the Commonwealth Coast Conference has to be Endicott. The Gulls beat Western New England in the regular season but lost to them in the conference championship. A dark-horse this spring the CCC could be University of New England or Wentworth. According to Coach Quirk, “UNE is getting stronger every year, while Wentworth is getting stronger and stronger.”
