St. Anselm Men’s Lacrosse Chosen Seventh in NE-10 Preseason Coaches’ Poll

SOUTH EASTON, MASS. – The Saint Anselm College men’s lacrosse team was voted into seventh place for the 2014 Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll the conference announced recently.

Saint Anselm earned 65 points in the poll after finishing the 2013 season with a 5-10 overall record and earning a bid to the Northeast-10 Championship for the second straight season.

Le Moyne College, the reigning NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse National Champions, received 10 first-place votes and 120 points to take the top spot. Adelphi University finished second in the poll with 112 points and two first-place votes, while Merrimack College finished third with 101 points.

The Hawks lost six players to graduation, but return all of their top-five leading scorers from last season, including seniors Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.), Ryan Mee  (Medway, Mass.) and Jake Mallinson (Middletown, R.I.), as well as junior Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Warren (Georgetown, Mass.). Last season, Messner led the Hawks in points, with 38, goals, with 26 and ranked second in assists, with 12. Mee and Mallinson contributed 35 and 27 points each, respectively.

Saint Anselm is also receiving votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2014 Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Hawks will open the 2014 season Saturday, Feb. 22 as they travel to LIU Post for a 12 p.m. matchup. Saint Anselm will open its home slate at Grappone Stadium on March 19 when the Hawks play host to Molloy in a 4 p.m. tilt.
