Bentley University Falcons 2014 Preview

Bentley University Falcons

The Bentley University Falcons finished the 2013 season with a 4-8 record. They lost their final game of the season to Adelphi 6-14. Heading into 2014 the Falcons have lofty expectations. According to head coach Jim Murphy, they are looking to challenge for the Northeast-10 title and an NCAA bid. He also called last season disappointing, and they are looking to turn things around in 2014. This season will mark 22 years on the sidelines for coach Murphy.

Heading into 2014 the Falcons will be stronger defensively as they return their entire starting close defense and their defensive midfielders. Returning close defensemen are senior Billy Sweeney, senior Riley Merritt, junior Connor Raffety and senior LSM Tim Cobb. Leading the defensive midfield unit will be junior Telemachus Demoulas. Offensively coach Murphy is looking for three former high school All-Americans and a transfer to spark the offense. Those student-athletes are attack John Wheeler, midfield David Phelps and midfield/FO Derek Osbahr. Coach Murphy is also looking for Sacred Heart transfer, junior attack Cutler Diamond to make an immediate impact.

A great story this spring for the Bentley Falcons is Jamie Romero. Romero grew up in Everett, MA., got involved in lacrosse through Metro Lacrosse, and played at Gould Academy. This spring he is a member of the Falcons lacrosse team as a freshman.

A favorite this spring in the Northeast-10 is LeMoyne according to coach Murphy. He went on to say, “they continue to win every year, even when they lose significant contributors to the program.” A dark-horse this spring looks to be Southern New Hampshire. They have a great blend of talented veterans and young players according to coach Murphy.
