The Southern New Hampshire Penmen will head into 2014 looking to improve on their 5th place finish last spring in the Northeast-10. The Penmen qualified for the Northeast-10 tournament but they lost in the 1st round to St. Michael’s 2-7. Leading the Penmen from the sidelines will be long time head coach Paul Calkins. Coach Calkins as been on the sidelines over 25 years coaching the Penmen.

Leading Southern New Hampshire this spring will be pre-season All-American candiate Rob Murray. Murray was also a 1st team Northeast-10 selection last spring, as well as the Penmen’s leading scorer. He led the team with 30 goals and 15 assists as a midfielder in 2013. Giving Murray some offensive help will be attack Cameron Joyce. Joyce was an All-Rookie team selection in 2013 in the Northeast-10. He contributed 28 goals and 8 assists as a freshman last spring. Coach Calkins will also look to junior attack Corey Allen to help on the offensive side as well. Allen scored 29 goals and added 4 assists. Defensively Coach Calkins will look to Chris Roach a senior defensemen to lead the Penmen. He scooped up 41 groundballs and had 19 caused turnovers in 2013. Roach also had a tryout with England’s National team this past semester break.

In the Northeast-10 Coach Calkins says the title runs through LeMoyne. LeMoyne is the defending Division II National Champions. A dark-horse this spring in the Northeast 10 according to Coach Calkins is Bentley. He went on to say that Bentley had a down year in 2013 and he expects them to rebound in 2014. A player in the Northeast-10 that we will keep an eye on this spring is Southern New Hamphire’s own Rob Murray. His head coach had nothing but praise for Murray. His coach went on to say, “he (Murray) has put lots of extra time in and is motivated to be the best midfielder in the conference.”
