Providence College’s Andrew Barton Selected By Florida Launch in MLL Collegiate Draft
Barton was selected in the seventh round.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College midfielder Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) was selected 53rd overall by the Florida Launch in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft on Friday, Jan.10.
Barton, a senior captain, started each of the Friars’ 16 games last season. He ranked second on the team in scoring with 45 points on 27 goals and a team-high 18 assists. Barton landed 64 of his 95 shot attempts on goal from a .674 shots on goal percentage. In addition, Barton caused 16 turnovers and collected 32 groundballs.
Barton tallied his 100th career point on April 27, 2013 on an assist against Villanova. Barton was the 21st Friar to reach the 100 point plateau.
Providence opens its 2013 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 22 when the Friars travel to Burlington, Vt. for an afternoon match-up with Vermont. The game will be played on Virtue Field and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
