UVM Men’s Lacrosse Announce Captains for 2014 Season

BURLINGTON, Vt. Seniors Graham Horvath and Ahmad Zachary and juniors Andrew Buckanavage and Andrew Muscara were selected by their teammates as Vermont men’s lacrosse team captains for the 2014 season. Head coach Ryan Curtis made the announcement today.

“I am pleased to announce the selection of Andrew, Graham, Andrew and Ahmad as our captains this year. These four bring a diverse background to their roles as leaders in both personality and experience. Their different perspectives will allow them to relate to all of their teammates. They have clearly earned the respect of their teammates both on and off the field, ” commented Curtis.

Horvath started every game for the Catamounts in 2013, and finished second on the team in both points (34) and goals (31), while tallying the game-winning score in overtime at Sacred Heart. Horvath’s 2.29 goals per game were good for ninth-best in all of America East.

Zachary finished third on Vermont in both ground balls (35) and caused turnovers (10) a season ago, while also chipping in five points on two goals and three assists.  Through his first three seasons with the Catamounts, Zachary has played in 41 out of a possible 43 games.

Buckanavage played in all 14 games last season for Vermont, finishing fifth on the squad with seven goals. The Ridgefield, Conn. native tallied the game-winning score against Wagner, and collected multi-goal games versus both Bryant and Stony Brook.

Muscara led the team in faceoffs (56) and finished second in ground balls (40) in 2013 despite playing in only five games after suffering an injury. He was ranked 23rd in the nation in ground balls per game (4.79) in his sophomore season, and currently has 132 ground balls and 195 faceoff wins in his career.

The Catamounts finished last season at 4-10 overall and 1-4 in America East play. Horvath (34 pts), junior Tim Yager (14 pts) and sophomore Patrick Clark (14 pts) are the top three returning scorers for UVM. Sophomore Justin Rosenberg returns in goal after earning an America East All-Rookie Team selection last season.
