NCAA Division 3 Quarterfinals

We still have two New England teams alive in the NCAA Division 3 Championship.  Those teams are #6 Tufts and Western New England.  Tufts held serve on home turf against Stevens, while Western New England went on the road to defeat Nazareth.

#1 Cortland (18-0) vs. Western New England (13-6) 6:00 PM

How we got here:  The Cortland Red Dragons received a 1st round bye, then defeated Aurora in the 2nd round 14-8.  The Golden Bears of Western New England defeated Eastern Connecticut 16-10 in the 1st round and defeated Nazareth for the second time this season 15-12 in the 2nd round.

Cortland and Western New England met earlier this season in Cortland.  The Red Dragons defeated the Golden Bears 16-5 in that 2013 matchup.  Unfortunately this is the where the road ends for Western New England.  They have had a great post season run, winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference on the road at Endicott, and then winning two games in the NCAA Division 3 Tournament.  Cortland wins this game big, and advances to the semi-finals.

# 3 RIT (17-2) vs. #6 Tufts (16-4) 4:30 PM

How we got here:  The RIT Tigers received a 1st round bye, then defeated Cabrini 22-13 in the 2nd round.  Tufts defeated Norwich 26-4 in the 1st round and then defeated Stevens 14-9 in the 2nd round.

These two teams have met each of the past two NCAA Division 3 Tournaments.  Tufts defeated RIT in the 2012 quarterfinals 15-13.  The Jumbos also defeated the Tigers in the 2011 semi-finals 16-12.  Tufts win this one over RIT but it will be close.  The win for the Jumbos sets up a semi-final matchup with Cortland this weekend.
