NCAA Division 3 2nd Round
Only two New England teams have advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA Division 3 Championship; #6 Tufts and Western New England. On Wednesday, Tufts defeated visiting Norwich 26-4, while Western New England defeated Eastern Connecticut State 16-10. The 2nd round of the NCAAs is on Saturday; Tufts will host Stevens while Western New England travels to Nazareth.
#6 Tufts (15-4) vs. Stevens (13-4)
The Jumbos defeated GNAC champs Norwich 26-4 in their 1st round matchup. The Stevens Ducks defeated Montclair State 13-11 in their 1st round matchup. Stevens has been a thorn in the side of New England lacrosse teams this spring. The Ducks are 3-1 against New England teams, and defeated Endicott 21-9, Eastern Connecticut State 16-8 and Springfield 16-8. The Ducks lone loss to a New England team was to Tufts, 14-18. Stevens will have revenge on their minds, while Tufts goal is to make it to Philadelphia.
Prediction: Tufts defeats Stevens by 7 goals
#8 Nazareth (15-4) vs. Western New England (12-6)
The Golden Bears of Western New England get to travel to Nazareth for the 2nd time this season. The Golden Bears won their 1st round matchup over Little East champs Eastern Connecticut 16-10. Nazareth defeated fellow New England team and NAC champs Castleton 25-4 in their 1st round matchup. Nazareth and Western New England met earlier this season with the Golden Bears coming out on top 12-6. This makes for an intriguing matchup and a rematch from earlier in 2013.
Prediction: Western New England defeats Nazareth by 4 goals
