Top Four Teams in New England Remain Unchanged In Week Three Poll
BEVERLY, Mass. — The four teams at the top of the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s (NEILA) weekly poll remained the same as the spring lacrosse season continued into its third week, which featured some early season matchups of top non-conference teams.
Tufts, Western New England, Trinity and Bowdoin held their spots from last week’s poll, with the Golden Bears of Western New England the only team that has seen action already this year. WNE fell 9-5 in their opener at #2 Stevenson, who reached the NCAA semi-finals a season ago.
Springfield dropped two spots for the second consecutive week, falling to 7th after opening up the season as the #3 team in New England. The Pride will next take on Middlebury, who is looking to break into the top ten for the first time this year.
Babson thumped New England College 17-8 to jump up into the rankings at #8, while Eastern Connecticut fell to the ten spot after a 16-8 defeat at the hands of #6 Stevens Tech, who has also already dispatched Endicott and Springfield this season. The Gulls fell out of the rankings as well despite evening their record at 1-1 by beating Gordon.
Colby, who remained at #9 and Amherst, who moved up a spot to #6, will open their season against each other on Saturday, March 9th
