Bentley Voted 5th in Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University has been picked 5th in the Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll as voted on by the conference’s head coaches.
The Falcons garnered 76 points, coming in behind preseason favorites Le Moyne (nine first-place votes, 119 points), Merrimack (two first-place votes, 108 points), Adelphi (one first-place vote, 106 points) and Saint Michael’s (87 points). Le Moyne is both the defending NE-10 regular season and tournament champions after beating Merrimack in last year’s final.
The poll is rounded out with Saint Anselm in sixth (69 points), Saint Rose in seventh (60 points), Franklin Pierce in eighth (46 points), Pace and Southern New Hampshire in a tie for ninth (41 points), Assumption in 11th (28 points) and American International in 12th (11 points).
Bentley is coming off a 5-5 season in NE-10 play, which qualified them for the postseason for the 11th time in 12 years.
Head coach Jim Murphy, now in his 21st season at Bentley and the only head coach in the program’s varsity history, has 33 players back from last year’s squad. Senior Steve Caditz (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and junior Nick Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) are the leading returning scorers.
Bentley opens its season on March 2 at home against No. 8 New York Tech.
Women’s Lacrosse Picked 5th in Northeast-10 Preseason Poll
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women’s lacrosse team has been picked fifth in the Norhteast-10 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Falcons, who have already been ranked No. 9 in preseason polls by both the IWLCA and Lacrosse Magazine, received 103 points in the poll to come in fifth out of 13 teams.
The top spot in the poll was claimed by Le Moyne, the defending NE-10 regular season champions, with five first-place votes and 137 points. The defending NE-10 tournament champions Adelphi is second with five first-place votes and 133 points. Stonehill (three first-place votes, 124 points) is third and New Haven (110 points) is fourth.
Following Bentley in the preseason poll is Merrimack (86 points), Saint Anselm (76 points), Southern New Hampshire (65 points), Assumption (61 points), Franklin Pierce (40 points), Saint Michael’s (37 points), American International (27 points) and Southern Connecticut (15 points).
The 2013 Falcons return 11 of 12 starters from last year’s team that went to the NE-10 semifinals after beating New Haven in the first round 9-8. They were ranked No. 9 in the final IWLCA poll of the 2012 season.
Bentley will open its season on the road in Florida against Rollins College on March 11 at 7:00 pm.
