The Reebok Black shoulder pads are like most shoulder pads on the market today; lightweight and minimalistic. Gone are the days of huge shoulder pads. The one thing that separates the Reebok Black shoulder pads from the rest though, is Carbon Lite. Reebok has placed Carbon Lite plates at the heart sternum and at the collarbone. Those are two areas of concern for lacrosse players, and Reebok has designed their pads to protect them.
The shoulder pad itself is very good. It is lightweight, has protection in all of the right places, and even has bicep pads. The one thing I was concerned with is the lack of protection in the chest area. Besides the Carbon Lite protecting the heart sternum, there isn’t a lot of other protection in that area. Maybe I am old school and like a little more protection in there. I did like the Carbon Lite on the collarbone. It sucks to catch a stick in that area, and the Carbon Lite does a great job protecting it. The bicep pad is removable which is nice, but also adjustable if you want to keep it attached to your shoulder pads. The rest of the shoulder pad is made of EVA foam pads. Overall, the shoulder pad is good, and as a midfielder, it did its job. Definitely another quality piece in Reebok’s Black line.
If you are an attackman and looking for more protection, add the Reebok Black rib pads. The rib pads are constructed of EVA foam that is strategically placed for protection. This allows the rib pad to be flexible and allow you to move with ease. The rib pad has shoulder straps that fit nicely under your shoulder pads. They also feature Reebok’s Griptonite to keep the pads in place. Again, these are another quality addition to the Reebok Black line. We have tested and reviewed four pieces from the new line and are very impressed with what Reebok has put together. We here at NE Lax Blog can’t wait to see what they put out next.
